South Florida Mustangs
Training Days

Our second training session (June 4, 2006) saw many more people than the 1st training clinic. We even had some riders that were just hanging out at the park come out and try out our tarp. Some even helped with circling Drifter. Everyone agreed that we had fun and all the horses tried and succeeded at something new.

Everyone got better at lungeing their horses, yielding their hindquarters, doing the rope yields, tarp work, cavaletti's and jumps.

Caitlin even rode around Tim/Cat & Mary/Kid holding a flag. As I understand it, they both did FANTASTIC!! Mary even admitted that Cat handled the flag better than Kid did. We always have the flag with us and it can be available to everyone.

Sandra showed up later with her mini. Even though the mini wasn't part of the training session, some of the horses had to adjust to seeing this little fella.

I had much trouble trying to load Drifter back into the trailer. However, Darlene offered some VERY valuable advice which helped Drifter to load within 10 minutes of applying it. Up to that point, we tried to load for about 90 minutes! I asked Darlene where she came up with this idea. She said the credit goes to Redman!! For those of you who don't know, Redman is Sandra's mustang who also has a couple of trailering issues. I even got him home and did that same procedure again - twice- the third time, he walked right into the trailer. What a relief to actually have an answer to a "problem"! Now.... ONTO THE NEXT ISSUE! :)

Our next training session will involve more "scary" objects and maybe even horses walking UNDER the tarp!! We hope to see more of you at the next session!

Just checking to see if he'll go OVER or THRU the jump!!

Tim & Cat / Mary & Kid
Hand walking over the "killer" tarp that Darlene provided.
Cat & Kid walked over it calmly - no hesitation.

Tarps ain't nothin' for the "Queen of the Outlaws"

Mary & Kid

Mary & Kid / Tim & Cat
Sometimes it's scarier going over the tarp when mom or dad
isn't leading you. But, they ended up going over the
tarps without any drama.

Ashley & Kali (?)
Going over the jump bareback and with only
a halter and lead rope. That's our Ashley!!

Karen & Jake

Caitlin & Drum
Drum isn't the most graceful of jumpers, but he does try.

Pat & Drifter
Getting used to people on horseback circling him while he is being lunged.

Caitlin & Drifter
NOW he's got it and he's having FUN!!
